Razzaq Coleman De-Graft gave the away side the advantage just shy of the half hour mark, firing an effort fortuitously beyond the reach of Glovers stopper Jos Barker. Yeovil’s response came within moments of play restarting after the break, with Joe Cook inadvertently turning the ball into his own goal.
Arriving in Somerset looking for a fourth straight National League win, Adam Hinshelwood named an
unchanged squad following the 2-1 victory over FC Halifax Town on Saturday.
The first major chance for either side came with just over 30 seconds on the clock, with Ricky Aguiar’s first-time effort from inside the box was thwarted by the body of Barker following Coleman De-Graft’s cutback.
Having passed the early defensive test it was the Glovers’ turn to go on the attack. A clever pass by Archie Davies sent Ryan Jones charging towards the by-line on the right-hand side. Jones’ threaded pass was picked up by Johl Powell whose effort required an intervention by Taylor Seymour. The stop was the first of several key saves in a busy first half for the Sussex Cat.
Against the run of play, the woodwork was struck by the visiting side. A quickly-taken direct free-kick from Joel Colbran was latched onto by Charley Kendall, whose cross deflected onto the top of the crossbar before being hurriedly cleared to safety.
Billy Rowley’s hosts returned home seeking a third straight league win, and looked to have gone on the front foot through the opening 25 minutes. Former Dorking Wanderers full-back, Jordan Norville-Williams saw an effort strike Seymour’s left upright after a lacklustre headed clearance sat up kindly at the edge of the penalty area.
For all of the bright spots in the Yeovil attacking effort to start the match, it was a defensive error for the home side which gifted Worthing the opening goal of the evening. A looping ball just outside the hosts’ box was touched down by Coleman De-Graft, whose eventual low effort crept underneath the outstretched glove of Barker.
Charlie Waller spurned an opportunity to double the Reds’ lead with the interval fast approaching, heading Jordan Young’s in-swinging delivery just past the post from 12 yards out.
Worthing’s efforts to consolidate their half time lead suffered an immediate blow merely a minute after the restart. A free-kick delivery by Yeovil captain Brett McGavin from near the left corner flag was drilled towards the near post. Evading a flurry of Reds defenders, the ball ricocheted off the body of Cook and into the back of the net.
The Rebels early concession in the second half preceded an extended spell of Yeovil pressure, yet Hinshelwood’s side continued to pose a threat in counter-attacking situations. An adventurous run from Colbran allowed the Reds skipper to flash a delivery across the face of goal, although Young’s timely arrival was met by the lunging Jack Kingdon who sent the ball behind for a corner.
A similar phase of attack for Worthing down the right yielded their best chance of retaking the lead with quarter of an hour to play. Shifting on to his right side, Coleman De-Graft drove towards the by-line before squaring the ball towards the penalty spot. Arriving this time was Adjetey-Brew, whose first-time effort was cleared courtesy of excellent defending by Ben Radcliffe.
While both sides would stake claim on being best placed to take the points, a score draw proved an accurate representation on the balance of proceedings, with the Rebels extending their unbeaten league run to six games heading into a trip to North East to play bottom of the league Gateshead.
