We’re waiting to hear back on our application for Worthing to become UK Town of Culture 2028 – a landmark opportunity to build on the creative energy already thriving across our seaside town.
Across Worthing, culture is already bringing people together. From Worthing Theatres and Museum to AudioActive Worthing, Worthing Festival and Dad La Soul, local organisations are already proving that creativity brings our community together.
This application, launched in collaboration with more than a dozen local groups, organisations and individuals, is about unifying those separate pockets of talent, moving towards a single, powerful cultural destination.
If successful, this bid will unlock millions of pounds of investment to grow Worthing’s cultural offer – connecting communities, celebrating local stories, and shaping a more vibrant and resilient future for the town.
As part of our application, we propose a town-wide creative trail inviting people to discover artworks across our neighbourhoods. We’ll also launch a digital platform connecting young people and creatives, building digital skills and pathways into creative careers. Alongside this, we’ll stage large-scale outdoor performances – from the pier through the town to the South Downs – bringing culture into shared spaces and making it accessible to all.
Our initial application has now been submitted. If we’re shortlisted, we’ll have the chance to develop these plans further with the support of the community. We expect to hear the outcome in the next couple of months.
This is a great opportunity for Worthing to embrace one shared cultural identity – ensuring the town’s future is just as pioneering and creative as its past.
